Day 1Belgrade

Welcome to Belgrade! You’ll be met at the Airport and transferred to our Hotel. Depending on your flight schedule, the sightseeing tour of Belgrade will take place either today or on the last day before your return flight. Belgrade sightseeing tour includes the most significant sights of old part of the city: the National Assembly, City Hall, National Theatre and the visit to St Sava Orthodox Church. You will also walk with your Local Guide along the pedestrian Knez Mihailova street and Kalemegdan park and fortress.

Day 3Zlatibor – Mokra Gora – Drvengrad – Belgrade

Our first stop this morning is at the small village of Mokra Gora. Here we have reserved seats for the train journey on the famous “Shargan Eight” heritage railway originally constructed in the early 1900s through deep cuttings and narrow gorges. Although the train route no longer serves its original purpose of connecting rural villages with Belgrade and Sarajevo, this short section has been restored recently and offers remarkable and breathtaking views of the surrounding area. Then we visit Drvengrad Mecavnik, an amazing yet traditional looking village created by the Serbian film director Emir Kusturica. Wood is the dominant building material used both for construction and decoration of the houses with very steep roofs. Enjoy a traditional cuisine for your included lunch and then spend some time looking for the local souvenirs, medical herbs, rare sorts of brandy and homemade food before we start our drive back to Belgrade. Tonight we will celebrate a memorable trip at our Farewell Dinner with excellent food and music in “Skadarlija”, the Bohemian quarter of the city.

Day 2Belgrade – Topola – Monasteries of the Ovcar-Kablar region – Zlatibor

After breakfast we depart from Belgrade and drive through the picturesque Sumadija region of central Serbia. At its heart lies the town of Topola, the famous site of the Serbian uprising against the Turks in 1804. We learn about its legendary leader, Karadjordje, while visiting his residence and the memorial park containing his monument. On the nearby hill of Oplenac we can admire the Royal Mausoleum in St George’s Church. Founded in 19th century the entire interior is covered with the mosaics of 725 painted compositions and around 1500 figures!! Then enjoy a lunch at the local Restaurant before continuing our journey through the Ovcar-Kablar region and the beautiful gorge of the western Morava river. There are 14 Serbian Orthodox Monasteries scattered around, built between 13th and 16th century often called the Serbian “Mount Athos”. Finally we climb the gentle slopes of mountain Zlatibor known for its remarkable beauty. Dinner at the Hotel.

Day 4Belgrade – transfer to the Airport

After breakfast we transfer you to Belgrade airport for your flight back home. Those who have a later flight may enjoy the included city sightseeing tour before departure to the airport. NOTE: Possible extension – one or more days on Zlatibor mountain or in Belgrade with combination of other sightseeing and excursions (Sirogojno village or Kostunici ethno village)
